Modeling / EMU
 EMU
(Extravehicular Maneuvering Unit) and Virtual Human
Model – Tietronix has developed this experimental
spacesuit for NASA. This model is used to represent
a suit design and visualization problem. The suit components
affect the astronaut’s body in various ways. The
model developed by Tietronix highlights the upper and
lower extremities function with the appropriate muscular
deformations while in the constraints of the space suit.
This human model is the focus of
design visualization and the effects of long-term wear
on EVA (extravehicular activity) astronauts. Here, ergonomic
and biomechanical attributes including strength, joint
moments, gait/movement condition, anthropometries, and
tolerances could be visually analyzed.
This technology can be applied
to commercial domains such as fire-fighting suits, military
protective gear, fighter pilot suits and other constraining
garments.
