Tietronix Software Awarded Phase II Funding for
Workflow Automation Solution Development
Houston developer receives $600k Small Business Innovation
Research (SBIR) grant for TieFlow eProcess Software
in use by NASA
HOUSTON April 10, 2002
– Tietronix Software, Inc. announced today it
has received a contract from the National Aeronautics
and Space Administration (NASA) to continue the development
of its workflow software product, TieFlow eProcess.
The contract provides $600,000 over two years for the
development of Phase II of the project.
TieFlow eProcess is a simple, yet powerful business
process improvement solution. TieFlow eliminates work
inefficiencies and transforms internal operations involving
people, paper and procedures into a streamlined well-organized
electronic-based process for corporations. This web-based
tool can automate and simplify generic business processes
such as benefits enrollment or purchase orders as well
as industry processes such as loan applications or medical
claims.
Because workflow systems hold the promise of transforming
business and work environments, many commercial workflow
products have emerged on the market. However, most of
today’s existing products have limitations including
poor scalability, limited flexibility and interfaces
that are not user-friendly.
“We are adding capabilities to our workflow solution
that will make it a new benchmark in this product category,”
said Victor Tang, President of Tietronix. “For
example, TieFlow allows process owners with no programming
skills or technical knowledge to completely define,
implement, deploy, and maintain electronic workflow
processes. In addition, TieFlow integrates across the
distributed enterprise and with business partners regardless
of their existing technology platform.”
Tietronix engineers initially developed the first generation
workflow for NASA as a secure, open standard web-based
system that allows worldwide participation of authorized
users in the Johnson Space Center processes. The software
is currently being used by several NASA offices including
the Mission Operations Directorate and the Flight Director’s
Office. NASA’s Flight Director's Office uses the
software for its Flight Rules Change Request (FRCR)
Process to electronically submit and review changes
to the flight rules used during missions.
The development contract is being facilitated under
the Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) program.
Through this three-phase program, NASA and other federal
agencies fund small business research and development
(R&D) projects that have the potential for commercialization.
In phase II, NASA funds the R&D of the most promising
of the Phase I projects based on scientific/technical
merit, expected value to NASA, company capability, and
commercial potential.
In addition to its development at NASA, Tietronix has
secured a commercial contract for a vertical solution
in the healthcare industry while it continues to develop
the core product. The Tietronix solution easily integrates
with its client’s existing patient information
system, illustrating a key advantage of TieFlow in that
it operates seamlessly with legacy business systems.
Tietronix is currently seeking opportunities with entrepreneurs
and business solution providers to develop additional
vertical applications to target needs in specific industries.
These partnerships address the process automation and
workflow management needs for additional vertical markets.
“There are tremendous opportunities to expand
our workflow solution to additional industries. Most
businesses and industries that are associated with inefficiency
typically rely primarily on paper-based processes to
do business. The insurance, healthcare and government
immediately come to mind as examples, but there are
many others,” added Tang.
