Tietronix Software Offers a Virtual Visit to
NASA’s Johnson Space Center
HOUSTON April 30, 2002 – Tietronix Software, Inc.
announced today it has developed an interactive tour
of NASA’s Johnson Space Center on CD-ROM. From
the Apollo and Skylab projects to today’s Space
Shuttle and International Space Station Programs, the
Johnson Space Center (JSC) is the heartbeat of human
space flight.
The virtual tour is a simple, yet
fascinating alternative means of visiting the facility.
Users are taken on a ground-based tour from the main
concourse on the JSC campus to areas not available to
the general public. The CD allows the viewer to observe
training mockups of the International Space Station
laboratory modules, Space Shuttle training simulators
and Mission Control rooms.
Following the events of September
11, 2001, security has become extremely important and
many areas, which were available to visit, are no longer
open to the general public at JSC. Such virtual tours
offer the capability to continue to discover and learn
about the entire JSC campus, including restricted areas
that a visitor could not visit otherwise.
“The Tietronix 3D Virtual
Tour product line, used to develop the JSC virtual tour,
provides users with a total immersion experience in
a computer-simulated environment allowing viewers to
explore the previously unknown, but only imaginable
environments,” said Victor Tang, President and
CEO, Tietronix.
The JSC Tour CD-ROM will be available
to the public via retail outlets that specialize in
educational and space-related products, including locations
at the JSC in Clear Lake, Texas as well as the Kennedy
Space Center in Florida.
The virtual tour of JSC allows
visitors to experience fascinating programs such as:
- Tours of Mission Control rooms
- Spectacular videos and animations sequences
- Interactive tutorials
- Spacecraft mockups
- Audio and written commentaries
- Additional space programs.
The Tietronix 3D Virtual Product
can be developed for use in other industries, such as
real estate development; construction; emergency and
operational facility training; travel and tourism destinations;
and commercial and residential real estate sales.
“For example, in the area
of construction and real estate development, the virtual
tour can be created to provide detailed virtual structures
for architects and engineers, and designers can take
a virtual walk through the structures letting them head
off potential problems before a spade of dirt is overturned
or a bolt is fastened,” said Tang. “The
product also allows users to visualize structures before
they are built, thus potentially resulting in dramatic
cost savings.”
